Fox Release Date Changes (Bohemian Rhapsody, X-Men Dark Phoenix, and New Mutants)

So this week 20th Century Fox made a few interesting changes to it's release date calendar. First of all, the moved up the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody from it's original Christmas 2018 release date to November 2. Not really surprised considering this holiday season will be packed with a lot of big movies like Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns. And the fact that they moved it up instead of pushing it back tells me they do really have confidence in this film (Despite the director change) and maybe think it could be an Oscar contender.

Before this change up, X-Men Dark Phoenix was originally supposed to be released on November 2. Now they've pushed it back to February 14 2019. And according to Collider, the reason for the push back is because they want to do some reshoots (Don't panic about that. Lots of big movies go through reshoots), but a lot of the main cast won't be available until like August. And obviously they wouldn't be ready for an early November release date with that schedule. So hey pushed it to February and that makes a lot sense. February used to be considered a dead zone like January usually is, but for the last couple of years we've had some big box office hits and great films come out that month like The LEGO Movie, Kingsman, Deadpool, and most recently Black Panther. Sure I'm disappointed that it's no longer coming out this year (I know a lot of people hated X-Men Apocalypse, but I enjoyed it despite it's issues and I loved First Class and Days Of Future Past), but if they need more time to finish the film and deliver the best product they can, I can wait a bit longer.

The change that concerns me the most is the one for New Mutants. It was originally supposed to come out in 2 weeks, but was pushed to February earlier this year. Now they've moved it again to August 2 2019. Apparently they're reshooting half of the film to add more horror and possibly a new character into it. I'm still excited for this film, but the fact that this film has been delayed twice concerns me. I also hope that Fox doesn't pull a Gavin Hood or Josh Trank on New Mutants director Josh Boone and remake the film without him.

And no, none of these delays have anything to do with the Disney deal. The deal still hasn't been approved by the government yet and that could take over a year to happen. If Disney tried to interfere with Fox's projects before it becomes 100% official, they would get into huge trouble. And there's still a decent chance that the government blocks the merger like they're trying to do with AT&T and Time Warner. Not saying they will do that, but it's possible. Until they make their decision, it's business as usual for both Disney and Fox.

What do you think of these delays/changes? Comment and let me know. And thanks for reading. :0)
